Breaking news

14/10/09- The league was finalised last night, with the Squirrel A beating Thurcroft Welfare. The scoreline was 5-1, Ben Clayton missing a tight black and Rooney taking full advantage with a nice clear up. I had a cheeky rub, knocking my last red in off the wrong ball, which cleared the black. What can you do, but apologise, then bang the black in. Terry Stevenson, took two cheeky finishes out, coming out of snookers on his last colour, potting the ball and getting on the black on both occassions.
The last frame of doubles, was concluded when young Thommo and Trev were on their last colour and were put in the worst snooker of the season. In the attempted escape, the black was potted and the evening concluded. I have to say, that the Saxon table is by far, the best table in the league. By a very long way. Thanks to Jo and family for accomodating us there.

In the singles KO, matches are being played on Weds 16th Sept at the Saxon.
Mark Singleton WON V Vince Ley
Ian Brunt V Malk Kelwick WON
Best of 7.
2/9/09- In the final of the team KO, at the half way stage, Squirrel B were well in the hunt at 3-2 down against the A team and were unlucky not to be 3-2 up. However, things were not to be and the Squirrel A team pulled clear to win 5-2 following 2 tidy finishes (by me). It was a good match played in good spirit and enjoyed by all.

In the league, Div A, 1st Thurcroft Welfare, 2nd Squirrel B.
Div B- 1st Squirrel A, 2nd Hatfeild Arms.

19/8/09- Last nights KO semi-finals. Squirrel B went to the Thurcroft Welfare and took revenge for last week. Squirrel B went into the final by winning 5-4. Great result.
In the other semi-final, Squirrel A played well to beat Double Barrel 5-1.

18/8/09- The Quarter finals of the singles KO have been drawn, so if we can all get on with it and have them played by the 3rd Sept. Then I'll have caught up. Still best of 5.
Vince Ley(won) V Richard Turner
Glen McKay V Malc Kelwick(won)

Ian Brunt(won) V Tim Cook

5/8/09- Div B rivals Squirrel A and Hatfeild Arms clashed this week. Hatties went 2-0 up and were looking good, but the Squizzers were not to be denied. A couple of fudging games later and it was all square. I cleared up at my first visit, John Carswell broke and dished, Ben Clayton took 2 outstanding dishes out in the singles and doubles and it was all over. Squizzers ran out 7-2 winners.

Next week sees the Div A clash between Squirrel B and Thurcroft Welfare. They are both on 45 points, but the Squirrel B team have a game in hand. This match will no doubt decide the league winners.

4/8/09- Double Barrel beat the Hatfield Arms 5-3 last night to progress to the semi-finals of the K/O cup.

1/7/09- Leeds Arms lost their cup match to the Ivanhoe. Saxon lost to Pride of Dinnington.

Hatfeilds turned up to the Double Barrel. But that's next week. The moral of the story is, turn up to meetings and you'll know what's happening.

Travellers have had to withdraw from the league due to some of their team having work commitments. They have a couple of players still wanting to play, if teams are short, get in touch with me.

17/6/09- Squirrel A had the legs of Hatfeild Arms last night, beating them 7-2. A little bit of revenge for pasting us in the KO final. One or two matches have been postponed through weather etc. If they can be arranged ASAP.

2/6/09- Don Jon have had to pull out. Ties with them should be treated as byes

16/6/09- The season was wrapped up tonight when the mixed doubles final was played, between Packa and Fallon against Glen McKay and Sharon. The match was a tight affair locked at 2 all. The deciding frame could have gone either way, with Packa having a great chance when handed 2 shots. Unlucky not to finish the frame at that visit, he played the black safe. Glen played a decent shot, but left a difficult black into the middle bag. Fallon held her nerve and rolled it in to win the match. (Fallon potted all 3 blacks by the way.)
Congratulations to the first ever mixed doubles champions Packa and Fallon.

In the KO singles final last night, a grand display of potting from both Ben Clayton and Glen McKay. Ben took out a couple of outstanding finishes to show his ability. Unfortunately, he was up against Glen who has been in this position many times over the years. He took his finishes well and tucked up a couple of times when needed to create his chances. Winning 5-2, Glen retained his trophy for another year. Well done to both players for putting on a great display of pool.

22/4/09- This years KO final was played at the Thurcroft Welfare, between the Hatfeild Arms and Squirrel A. Paul Barker won the first frame for the Hatties, before Ian Bradley followed up to make it 2-0. Glen McKay & Malc Kelwick got one back to make a game of it. Ben Clayton then stepped up for the Squirrel, but missed his clearance, then missed a black. Dave Cawthorne nailed a really tough red, to leave himself on an easy black, for 3-1. The pressure continued as Kev Grice won another frame for the Hatties. Ian Bradley & Paul Barker put the final nail in the coffin, to win again. 5-1 and game over.

Congratulations to the Hatfeild Arms team, who were worthy winners of the 2008/9 team KO. Runners up- Squirrel A.

22/3/09- Congratulations to Kev Grice and Ian Brunt, who won the doubles K/O final last night. They beat Les Steedman and Mark Singleton 5-3.

16/2/09- Inaugural mixed doubles final. Pakka & Fallon(Can someone let me know their real names please) versus Glen McKay and Sharon. Neutral venue is the norm, but I have no problem if you agree either home venue. Best of 7. At a date of your choosing. Just let me know and I''ll ref.

15/3/09-Last night saw the completion of the singles semi finals.

Ben Clayton beat Baz Hilsley in their match 4-1.

In the Malc Kelwick v Glen McKay match, Glen won a deciding frame after Malc missed his chance. It was a little compensation for Glen who had lost a 6-5 against the 2 x World Champion, Chris Melling, in a Premier Pool Tour event the previous day. Melling can only be described as "awesome" in the pool world. For a little taster of that standard, put this link in your search engine.

1/4/09- Last night we hosted the Don Jon, winning 7-2. Rachel did the double on us, by beating Malc Kelwick in the singles.

26/3/09- Last night, the Squirrel A played at the Ivanhoe. I have never seen so much food at a pool match. The chilli was bang on. Had 3 portions. Thanks for that. We won 3-6 btw.

18/3/09- In the semi finals of the team KO, The Hatfeild Arms beat the Saxon 5-3 after being 3 all.
In the other semi-final match, the Squirrel A went behind 1-2, before running out 5-2 winners.

18/2/09- Team KO

In the Bottom Club v Hatties match, Danny Blackett and Ian Bradley ground out a doubles frame in a world record 75 minutes. THAT WAS AFTER A RE-RACK FOLLOWING 15 MINUTES OF TAPPING UP TO THE PACK. It has to be verified by Guiness of course. Bet Bruno Brunt was glad he volunteered to ref that one.

As for the Squirrel match, the highlight was one player falling off the stage and rolling around on the floor, turtle style. Made a few laugh. Fortunately, he was alright.

Well done to all the winners. Semi draw to be done at next meeting.

Saxon 5 v Leeds Arms 3
Top Club 5 v Pride of Dinnington 2
Squirrel A 5 v Ivanhoe 0
Thurcroft Welfare 3 v Hatfeild Arms 5

5/2/09- It will be noted that there are some slight discrepencies in the league table. This is as a result of the St Leger shutting down. Their team didn''t fulfill half of their fixtures, therefore standard league practice is for all of their results to be withdrawn and they now show as 0-0. It is the only way to be fair to all of the teams that haven''t played them.

14/01/09- You know when you just open your mouth to change feet. Looks like that''s what I did last week. We set off as usual, with Glen losing the first frame. But then we got our own nose bleed and went on to lose 6.3. The Top Club lads outplayed us and deserved their victory. So, well done. Played some good pool.

04/01/09- As expected really, the St Leger Arms team has folded due to the pub going bust and closing. Whilst it''s frustrating, these things happen. They have not completed half of their fixtures, so normal practice is for all of their results to be deleted. However, this will have to be discussed and confirmed at the next meeting. So, if you were due to play the St Leger, your match is cancelled. All of the other teams are still going strong, so it''s upwards and onwards.

17/12/08- A couple of late match cancellations unfortunately. I appreciate that it cannot always be helped, but if food has been prepared, then the cancelling team will have to pay the £10 normally paid for that food. That is only right and proper.

17/12/08 SQUIRREL A VERSUS LEEDS ARMS SCANDAL.
On the match front, all betting was suspended on Betfair for an 8-1 victory against Leeds Arms for the second week running. In the wake of the Maguire/Burnett scam, it would seem that the habitual loser, Glen "The Ginger Wizard" Mckay, has been taking tips from the snooker pair and was happy to take a bung in the back door. Yes, he was the only person to lose....again. A source close to the Leeds Arms team stated, "We''re all rate, aren''t we?"

Mckay''s pool career is now in tatters, having been beaten early in the season by a landlady, with a glass eye using the rubber end of a crutch.

Let''s hope Glen "cue carrier" Mckay, turns things round in the New Year.

15/11/08 Premier Pool Tour Grand Final was won this weekend, by Mark Singleton from the Squirrel. Field included some of the top players in the country. Brilliant performance, winning the semi 6-0 and the final 6-2. Well done Mark.

9/11/08 The Squirrel A team have represented the Dinnington league in the Champion of Champions competition this weekend at Great Yarmouth. The team played superbly, only losing in the quarter-finals. Which makes us the joint 5th best pub team in the country.

Superb individual performances from Mark Singleton winning 9 frames from 10 and Terry Stevenson who won 8 from 10. At the highest level of competition, this was some feat. Well done lads.

29/10/08. Don Jon win their first match against Ivanhoe 5-4. Well done George and crew. Onwards and upwards now.

Hatfeilds had a scare at 3 all, but managed to beat the Squirrel B side 5-4. Good chance slipped by to turn the leaders over.

Also, the Interleague team had our trousers pulled down and were spanked last night, 6-12 by the Punchbowl. I think we lost a bit of focus as we''ve already quailfied for the finals. They were happy to beat us after losing earlier in the season and most of them being in the Nelson Team that got hammered 8-1 by us.

22/10/08 The Squirrel B V Squirrel A match proved to be a bit different. Instead of the usual tight match, the A team dished out a right pasting, 9-0. 2 dry breaks from the B team were met with clearances from Glen, plus 2 break and dishes from myself and Ben Clayton proved just too much.

Hatfield Arms had to rely on a lucky black to win the deciding frame against the Travellers. Travellers have been unlucky in the last 2 weeks and deserve their place near the top of the league.

15/10/08. This week sees a series of 5-4 victories. Squirrel A won narrowly against the Travellers who are now in 3rd place. The story of the week though, is that the Squirrel B team lost 5-4 to Pride of Dinnington. And with the Hatfield Arms unbeaten, they have now gone clear at the top of the league. Can anyone stop them? Watch this space.

St Leger gained their first win of the year and relegated Don Jon to the foot of the table.

5/10/08 Update from this weeks Yarmouth. Dinnington played like they had a hangover. Because they had. Unbeaten against 2 sides that should have been beaten 12-6 and 10-8. 9-6 up against Normans Elite and unable to put them away. So we went out in the group stage. Normans Elite went through.

Medway 2 0 1 12 19 1 Medway 9-9 Dinnington
Dinnington 2 0 2 18 18 2 Normans Elite 9-9 Dinnington
Normans Elite 2 1 1 19 12 3 Medway 3-10 Normans Elite

Arch rivals, Sheffields Punchbowl faired a little better, getting through their group stage comfortably.

They then played Normans Elite. We were even more gutted, because we felt it should have been fun to play the Punchbowl. Normans Elite never really looked in danger, and beat Punchbowl 10-6.

And so ends another years dreams of becoming National KO Champions.

Highlights of the weekend, were the all you can eat Chinese meal, watching Minx do what only she can do with a banana, my birdie on the 15th, and watching Ole Bale play all comers for £50, first to 6. He played one handed whilst his opponent played with 2. They were queueing up to get beaten. Absolutely brilliant.

Can''t wait till next month. A sober Champ of Champs.

28/9/08. In the EPA Champion of Champion competions team event, Squirrel A have pasted Sheffields Lord Nelson 8-1. They were lucky to get 1 to be fair. Now through to the finals in November at Great Yarmouth, things are looking good.

21/9/08. Dinnington Interleague team beat Barnsley 14-4. Excellent performances from Ian Brunt, Mark Lancashire and Mark Singleton, capped off a fine team effort.

14/9/08. Mark Singleton won the Miscues open event, beating Barnsleys Nick Woolerton in the final.
